How PolyStudio Locates Your Backup Tools

PolyStudio features an automated BackupToolLocator that probes your environment in the following sequence:
1. Explicit path configured in appsettings.json under Backups.Tools.
2. Sibling directory (e.g. if pg_dump is configured, it auto-detects psql and pg_restore in the same folder).
3. Environment variables (PG_DUMP_PATH, SQLCMD_PATH, MYSQL_DUMP_PATH).
4. System PATH (if installed via winget, brew, or apt, no path configuration is required!).
5. Known installation directories (e.g. DBeaver driver repositories, standard Program Files folders).

"Backups": {
  "StorageRoot": "./backups",
  "Tools": {
    "PgDumpPath": "", // Leave empty if on PATH or in DBeaver drivers
    "PgRestorePath": "", // Auto-detected next to pg_dump or on PATH
    "PsqlPath": "", // Auto-detected next to pg_dump or on PATH
    "SqlCmdPath": "", // Path to go-sqlcmd binary (or leave empty if on PATH)
    "MySqlDumpPath": "",     // Path to mysqldump.exe / mariadb-dump
    "MySqlClientPath": "" // Path to mysql client binary
  }
}
Zero-Config Recommendation: If you install tools via your system package manager (e.g. winget, brew, or apt), they are placed directly into your system PATH. You can keep all paths in appsettings.json empty ("") and PolyStudio will detect and execute them automatically!
